Thomas Hardie
79th Cameron Highlanders c 1853. He was Piper to Queen Victoria. Find him in this Roll of Honour.
Piper Hardie is the hero of the episode involving two English footmen at Windsor Castle who mocked his Skye accent when he was appointed piper to Queen Victoria. "After vainly warning them, he threw off his jacket, and administered a sound thrashing," which led to his speedy return to the 79th. He was appointed pipe major in 1860, retiring in 1868. Source.
